Investigating Cures for Cancer

Medical Specialists prides itself on its participation in Clinical Trials as a means of advancing the field of oncology care. Whether it is a new drug, a new combination of drugs or a new technique or technology, clinical research may not only benefit current patients, but greatly improve care for future cancer patients. In fact, Medical Specialists stresses that patients participating in a clinical trial should feel good about their contribution to science, medicine, oncology and humanity, for their assistance in finding new answers to cure cancer.

Clinical trials answer specific questions about drugs, new therapies or new combinations of using existing treatments, and are used to evaluate whether new medicines or treatments are safe and effective.

Participation in a clinical trial is an important personal decision that should be discussed with your family and your physician. By participating in a clinical trial, you have a more active role in your health care. You also gain access to the latest research treatments before they are widely available, and help future cancer patients by contributing to medical research.

Medical Specialists Research Nurse in Partnership with Bridgeport Hospital

At the center of Clinical Trials activity at Medical Specialists is the Research Nurse. The Research Nurse performs the screening of eligible patients for a study and then conducts the informed consent with each patient and family who chooses to participate in a clinical trial. Through the informed consent process, the research nurse makes sure each patient understands the pros and cons of the study. During the clinical trial, the Research Nurse will coordinate both study and follow-up visits with patient.

The Research Nurse also determines the feasibility of various studies for Medical Specialists, and coordinates and updates the entire staff on new clinical trials taking place at Medical Specialists.
